Hemorrhoids or piles can be best described as one painful and dreaded disease. It causes the veins in the anus to swell and bleed. This causes chronic pain as well as bleeding from the anus. The banding of hemorrhoids is performed at the rectum and the anus. The procedure involves placing a rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid. Also there may be some discomfort during and after the procedure. The doctor have to be told, if the patient feels a sharp or severe pain. It can be then thwarted with the help of a mild pain medication.

Like any other medical procedure, the banding of hemorrhoids has its share of complications and side effects. There may be an excessive bleeding or an allergic reaction caused by the local anesthetic. Also the patient may find it difficult to urinate. They may also face some difficulty in passing stools due to a scar tissue. There may also be some pain or swelling in the anus.

However when the process is successful, the hemorrhoids will fall off within 1 to 2 weeks. The wound caused due tot he falling off of the hemorrhoids will normally heal itself within two weeks. However the patient has to be careful, he/she should regularly apply cream or ointment suggested by the doctor. Also it would be helpful to avoid sitting on hard surfaces, instead soft things like a cushion should be placed beneath the buttocks before sitting.
